Take Part!
Safety starts with everybody, and it’s everybody’s responsibility.
The CMS Safety Office is happy to support and appreciates receiving support!
Here is how to contribute:
Raise awareness. Talk to colleagues about safety procedures and help keep your Safety Files up to date.
Report what you see. Flag any non-compliance, issues, or anything that looks off – however small – through the contact form, or write directly to our email address cms-safety-team@cern.ch .
Join the CMS Safety Tour.
The Safety Tour is a walkthrough performed on a daily basis (Monday–Friday) across LHC Point 5 by volunteers. During the tour, you pass by a set of installations on the surface and underground and report anything unusual you spot along the way. The diversity of domains and professional backgrounds involved genuinely makes a difference — different experience catches different issues.
Mentor a newcomer.
Support the new colleague on Safety matters and awareness of their workplace: show them where evacuation exits are, where they can find further Safety information, and what proper working according to procedures means. A five-minute orientation from a colleague can save lives and make everyone’s job safer and easier.
Keep your area tidy.
Clear walkways, properly stored materials and labelled hazards prevent more incidents than most people realise – good housekeeping is Safety work too.
A tidy site is a Safe site.
Step up. Ready to do more for your colleagues’ Safety?
Consider taking on an official role – TSO, Location Responsible, Safety Patroller, Safety Tourist, First Aider SST, and more are listed in the Role Directory.
