An access derogation is an exceptional authorization that allows temporary underground access to a person who does not meet the standard access requirements (for example, missing or expired mandatory training).
Access derogations should only be requested when there is a genuine operational need and no practical alternative. They are considered an exception to the standard access rules and are not intended to replace or bypass mandatory Safety requirements.
Derogation comes with compensatory measures and limited duration.
Before requesting a derogation, personnel should make every effort to complete the required training and obtain the necessary access permissions.
Typical examples may include:
Expired or missing Self Rescue Mask training
Missing underground access authorization
Other exceptional situations requiring temporary access

How to request a derogation?
Submit an Access Derogation Request through the dedicated form.
The request will be reviewed by the CMS Technical Coordination (TC) and CMS Safety Office.
If approved, temporary access arrangements will be communicated by the responsible teams.
Important:
Access to underground areas cannot be granted based solely on the submission of a request.
The derogation must be formally approved before access can be authorized.
The identified compensatory measures shall be applied.
Access derogations are intended for exceptional circumstances only and should not be used as a substitute for completing the required CMS Safety training and access requirements.
