The CMS experiment is located at Point 5 of the Large Hadron Collider, in France in the Ain department (01), "Auvergne Rhône-Alpes" region.

Located on the territory of the town of Cessy (01071), Point 5 is surrounded by:

  • at North, the town of Gex,
  • at East, the towns of Sauverny and Grilly,
  • at South, the towns of Segny and Versonnex,
  • at West, the town of Echenevex

The population of Cessy is around 4817 inhabitants (ref. INSEE 2015).
