Get ready for a Safe LS3

LS3 Activities: Plan Before You Start

Before starting an activity, make sure that:

  • The activity has been properly planned and coordinated with CMS Technical Coordination.
  • You have completed the required training and have the necessary authorizations.
  • The risks associated with the work have been assessed by CMS Safety, and the necessary safety measures are in place.
  • The required PPE and equipment are available and suitable for the task.
  • The team understands the instructions and applicable safety requirements.
  • Any specific constraints or interfaces with other activities have been identified.

Activity Leaders are responsible for providing clear instructions, explaining the risks, ensuring that personnel have the appropriate PPE and training, and following up on the activity on site. They shall also ensure that the work area is left clean and that waste is properly managed and disposed of.

STOP – THINK – ACT

STOP

If the task or the condition of an installation is unclear, stop and ask before proceeding.

THINK

Take a moment to consider the situation, the hazards and whether the conditions are as expected.

Never guess, assume or take shortcuts when Safety is concerned.

ACT

Once you understand the situation and the risks, proceed safely and follow the agreed instructions and procedures.

Consulte the CMS LS3 Safety Strategy and related procedures for guidance to prepare and coordinate activities during LS3.

Speak up

Report incidents and dangerous situations so that we can learn from them and take action.

A simple question can prevent an incident.

Check the Incident Management page for more info about Incidents reporting and follow up.

LS3 Safety Briefings

We organise LS3 Safety Briefings for personnel working at Point 5, particularly newcomers.

The briefings take place on Monday mornings after the 08:00 TC Coordination Meeting.

A dedicated briefing can also be arranged when a new team arrives at Point 5.

The briefing provides key information to help personnel understand the site, the main safety requirements and the expectations for working safely during LS3.

Training: Anticipate Your Training Needs

Training may be required both to access certain CMS areas and to carry out specific activities.

Plan ahead

Check the training needs when planning the work, before the activity is due to start.

Activity Leaders

  • Identify the training, qualifications and authorizations required for each team member.
  • Make sure the required training is planned in advance of the activity.

Personnel

  • Enrol in the required training early.
  • If no session is currently available, join the waiting list so that the demand is visible.
  • Make sure your enrolment is confirmed and not still pending authorisation.

Need a training session for your team?

Contact CMS Safety well in advance. We can help identify the appropriate training and arrange tailored session.

Check the Training & Access page for more information about the required trainings.
